About the Movie: The trailer should be enough info to figure it out…

Review:
Let me start off by saying that I didn't really have high expectations for this movie going in... With that said, I enjoyed this movie. I was expecting it to be overly Tim Burtonized with stupid special effects in a movie filled with overly dark characters and scenes. So that was a little bit of a surprise but I will say a couple things about Dir Burton, J. Depp, and 3D movies before i do my review.
First: Director Burton. Stop with the over the top effects. We know you want everyone to think you are weird and eccentric but it's just lame.
Second: Johnny Depp. Dear Mr. Depp, you are amazing. I think your acting is great but when you only take weird roles in order to keep your acting fresh and different it blends together into sameness. I will probably still watch anything Depp has a part in but it just doesn't seem interesting anymore. Its like johnny depp is the character and he's not playing the character anymore.
Third: 3D. I'm getting sick of it. It's annoying and doesn't work for a movie like this. Now, I know many will disagree with me with that and say "3D is awesome!", but it's not worth $3+ per person more per movie. I'm sorry, 3D is a gimmick and an easy money maker but all it does is lighten wallets and give people headaches... esp in "real" movies. I'll agree, it looks better in animated movies. If it's a cartoon or animated movie, sure... spend your money on 3D but I have watched my last 3D movie unless you are paying, they make it no extra charge or they actually make it look right.
Now back to the movie review:
So Alice is in Wonderland... well kind of. It's almost like a sequel to the original Alice in Wonderland and I actually over heard someone complaining that the movie should have been named something else b/c of that. Anyway, I felt the first 10-20 mins of the movie (before Alice goes down the rabbit hole) were really well done and shot creatively. I think the movie should have stayed in this style the whole movie... but... alas, the green/blue screen cgi filled movie started after. And true to Burton style it was very dark. I didn't think it was a terrible blend of darkness though. I thought the characters were lighter than some of his other movies and it had a happier feel to the movie (much like pee-wee's big adventure did). Again, I will remind you that I didn't have high expectations for this movie but I would say they were exceeded. You'll probably laugh or at least chuckle and never be bored but you'll probably forget about this movie before it hits DVD. My recommendation... wait to Netflix or redbox it.
